Eminem Wake Up Show Freestyle

Man, I miss the young and hungry Eminem. I recently pulled out the good old VHS to watch my "The Best Of The Wake Up Show With Sway & King Tech). One of the highlights is seeing Eminem tearing it up with his two freestyles. The guy really brought something new and natural with his serial-killer imagery and off-kilter delivery. The passion and cleverness he came with was so refreshing and exciting.

When revisiting the tape I noticed that he had quite the crowd experiencing his amazing skill. If you look carefully you can see Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and Pharoahe Monch listening to his cypher. Rumor has it that Dr. Dre signed Eminem to Aftermath upon hearing this very bit from the Wake Up Show.

I feel like the way that music typically works, there will be someone who brings it in a new way to fill this vacuum. It's very rare for someone to redefine things more than once.

Hip Hop seems kind of stagnant to me now. It's dissapointing.

Hip hop is feeling a little stagnant these days...which bums me out a bit. Music in general hasn't been all that exciting for me...which is weird because I really feel that there's something at the cusp of musical discovery. Our world is begging for it! :-)

They say hip-hop is dead. Most MC's nowadays are concerned more bout how many carats are hanging from there neck n not lyrical content!

I've always had fun listening to his freestyle verses, and this set was no exception.
I'm still optimistic about hip-hop culture's future.
