I've always been a fan of Sam Peckinpah. He directed some of my favorite movies like STRAW DOGS, THE GETAWAY or BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA. This picture always fascinated me, I scanned it from a book years ago and I use it sometimes as desktop background. It shows Sam during the shooting of one of his last movies (shame on me, I don't know which one!) I like his face, he seems as mean as his characters.
Adam Warren is best known for writing and drawing DIRTY PAIR for Dark Horse but has also done some nice work on a few GEN 13 specials. Since his debut over 20 years ago, Adam was very influenced by Manga. But instead of copying the stylings of Japan's best, he found his own language for comic storytelling. His style incorporates the denseness of European comic pacing and the hyper-cool style of American superhero comics. With the huge surge in popularity of manga in the U.S., I expected Adam Warren to get his time in the "superstar" spotlight. But oddly, he's never gotten his much deserved props. Adam Warren's latest comic, EMPOWERED, is expected to debut sometime in March. Check it out for Warren's reliable mix of action, funky technological concepts, energetic pencil renderings, and gorgeous ladies. Below are some cool things from Adam Warren's DEVIANT ART portfolio. I love his failed "KILL BILL: DEADLY VIPERS" comics pitch. It makes me very sadthinking of what could have been!
When a "subculture" is going mainstream, there's always people taking that culture to make crap out of it. I expected that with the beautiful Lucha Libre culture. Soon, we'll see Santo or Blue Demon in a commercial for T-Mobile or Carls Junior. What I saw this weekend is way beyond my wildest expectation. As a Belgian citizen, I've always deeply hated Belgian theater, it's made by a bunch of pretentious talentless lowlife motherfuckers who couldn't even survive without government allowance. Take a look here and hate them as much as I do.
